PATRON Jaime Cerrón Palomino, Who was this man?

He was born in Santiago León de Chongos Bajo, province of Chupaca, Peru on June 24, 1937. As a young man he worked as a notary in the Upper Court of Justice in Junín. In 1959, he founds the Universidad Comunal del Centro del Peru. He, then, enters the Faculty of Education. During his student life, he characterized his conduct not only very economic, academic and political but for his commitment to participate in social endeavors aiming at popular welfare.

He is recognized as a leader of nationalization and of the newly born Universidad Comunal del Centro del Peru. Just before taking over the students leadership job, He was assigned to be the Genedral Secretary of the Centro Federal de Educación, Secretary of the Organización de la Federación de Estudiantes and Presidente Nacional de la Federacón de Estudiantes.

In 1965 he enters the University as a Professor of Education, beginning his career at Colégio da Comuna “Amauta” de Áhuac and later on at GUE José Gálvez Egúsquiza and at GUE Santa Isabel. He occupied the post of General Secretary of SIRPESCO III Region, where he strengthened the union, generating an environmnet for the creation and consolidation of SUTEP.

In 1969 he teaches at Universidad Nacional de Educación Enrique Guzmán y Valle- Cantuta – Filial Muquiyauyo. The following year he wins a National contest of cathedra and is nominated by the Universidad Nacional del Centro del Perú, for the Facultad de Pedagogía y Humanidades, where he takes over cathedras of Philosophy, Psychology, Historical and Dialectical Materialism and, at the same time, he occupies other jobs such as Director of Educational Academic Program, Director of University Students Welfare, Dean of Facultad de Pedagogía y Humanidades, and Vice Academic Director. All that did not stop him from concluding his studies of Law and Political Science at Universidad Peruana Los Andes.

His main literary works are in the fields of Philosophy and Education. They are all reunited in the following publications: La filosofía materialista dialéctica; Corrientes filosóficas I (De la filosofía oriental a la helenística); Corrientes filosóficas II (De Bacon a Hegel); Leyes del desarrollo social; Filosofía moderna y contemporánea (Positivismo y Pragmatismo); Historia de las Ideas en el Perú Contemporáneo, Historia y filosofía de la Educación en el Peru; Historia y Filosofía de la Educación Universal y Filosofía de las Sociedades Capitalistas.

He was just 53 years old, in June 8 1990, during the first aprista government and he was in his heyday of intelectuality, when he was kidnapped, vilely tortured and murdered by a paramilitary group. The physical disappearance of the Martir of Peruvian Education did not mean the loss of the conviction in the struggle aiming at a world with more justice at the service of the great majorities.

As a fair recognition for his examplary life, the University Council recognized him, posthumously, as the Headmaster of Universidad Nacional del Centro del Perú.
